A lot of you reading this post will have the goal of losing weight this year! After spending the holiday period over indulging on high sugar and high fat foods, the new year is often a great place to start to get into good eating habits.
The problem is, a lot of people will still have cupboards full of sugary snacks they were brought for christmas presents or treats they brought for entertaining guests that weren’t eaten. It’s way too easy at the end of a long, hard day of work to reach into the top cupboard and pull out a large bag of crips or a couple of chocolate bars.
So, the first thing I recommend for anyone who wants to lose weight this year is to get rid of all of those foods!
A really simple way to learn self control when it comes to sugar cravings in the evening, is to not have it readily available. If it is not in the house, you cannot eat it. Yes, you could drive to the shop to get yourself some chocolate…however, I guarantee you are much less likely to drive to the shop than you are the walk into the kitchen.
Unfortunately regardless of how hard you train, it will always be easier to put calories in than to burn them off. If your goal is to lose weight then you NEED to be in a calorie deficit. If you’re eating high sugar or high fat foods it becomes very hard for you to maintain a suitable calorie deficit.
If you have spent the last few weeks overindulging on poor quality foods, the very least you could do is take them away for a few weeks and see how much progress you can make!
Which is more important to you? Eating that chocolate bar or losing weight this year?
